A Country Ravaged and Devastated

Fourteen years of civil war has ravaged and devastated this small African country, leaving it completely bankrupt and unable to care for its own. Most affected by the war were children, especially orphans.

Those fortunate to escape the war were not so fortunate to escape hunger pains, illness, disease from unsanitary conditions and despair of not knowing how they would survive from day to day.

In April of 2004, after the war ended, seven volunteers including Elizabeth, our founder and visionary, visited Liberia to provide humanitarian aid. In the town there were children in the streets with no one to care for them. They began to follow her around pleading, “Could you please help us. We want to go to school. Please help us.”

Could you please help us. We want to go to school. Please help us.

They impacted her so much that she went back to the United States to ask for help from caring friends. The Liberian Children Tuition Aid, now Impacting Lives for Christ Ministries was founded to help the children.

A Life-changing Dream

It was later in October of 2004 that the Lord gave her a vision one night. In this dream, the Lord took her to the orphaned and poor children of the world. He showed her their living quarters and how they lived. She found herself in dungeons, underground and dimly lit alleys with the children. They were filthy and malnourished. Their hair hadn’t been combed for days and they were wearing rags.

As she followed these children, they worked their way from the dark underground alleys and came into the daylight. Some of the children went to the dumps looking for food. Then one of the children said, “Follow me”. She followed her and walked for miles. Not long after, they were in a beautiful field and to the right was a beautiful building.

Let me tell you about us. We were once orphans in the street. The people you see up front took us in, fed us, cared for us, educated us and now we have come back to help care for other orphaned and street children.

They entered the building and there were children sitting attentively listening to an instructor who was standing in front of the class teaching. There were volunteers in the room. The children were clean, well nourished, and well dressed. Their environment was clean. Then she heard one of the volunteers say, “Let me tell you about us. We were once orphans in the street. The people you see up front took us in, fed us, cared for us, educated us and now we have come back to help care for other orphaned and street children.”

As she stood admiring the quality of care the children were getting, the Lord took her back to Liberia and flashed to the suffering children she saw when she visited in 2004. She saw 75 children cramped in a five-bedroom house with no windows just holes in the wall for some light.

She saw children living in a building that had holes in the roof. When it rained, water would pour into the house. She saw children sleeping on cold concrete floors with rags on top. She saw children who were sick all the time because the same floor they walked on was the same floor they slept on. She saw children who were sick because they didn’t have enough food to eat. She saw children who had no shoes. She saw children who wanted to go to school but had no one to pay their tuition. She saw the suffering of the children and began to weep profusely in the dream.

The Call

Elizabeth was so grieved over the conditions that the Lord began to minister to her heart. She knew she had to do all that she could to provide the same loving care she saw in the beautiful orphanage in the dream for the orphaned children in Liberia.

As she was weeping for the children, she woke up. With tears streaming down her face, she said, “Yes, Lord, I hear you.” This is the call of Impacting Lives for Christ Ministries.

With the leading of the Lord, Elizabeth boarded a plane in 2006 and traveled to Liberia in search of land to build a home for poor and orphaned children in Liberia.
